#MCEC2019: Innovations in Special Education, our annual conference, was a one-day event that offered professional development and dissemination of research to practice innovations. Professionals in special education and related fields came together to learn and connect with each other through discussion of key topics in our work. The conference foci included innovations in special education in the areas of inclusion, social emotional learning, culturally responsive practice, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).
Conference registration included continental breakfast, a seated lunch, and afternoon refreshments.

Check out some highlights of the conference:
- A keynote address given by Dr. Thomas Hehir, former US Department of Education Office of Special Education Director and retired faculty, Harvard Graduate School of Education.
- Our presidential session address given by Colette Divitto, CEO of Colettey's Cookies, entrepreneur, policy advocate, and self-advocate who started her own business after experiencing obstacles finding full time employment.
- Breakout sessions covering inclusion, STEAM, culturally responsive practice and social-emotional learning.
- Our Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tech Lab! Attendees had the chance to drop by and experience innovations for the classroom utilizing these cutting edge technologies.
- Our seated lunch included an awards ceremony for our second annual MCEC awards! Please check out our MCEC Citizen of the Year Award and Professional of the Year Award pages.
