No Child Left Behind Resources

MaryAnn Byrnes Portrait

We’ve all heard about it. We’ve even read about it. Here’s a new section in Government Resources that provides clear information on No Child Left Behind (NCLB) the far-reaching federal initiative that endeavors to hold schools accountable for having every child proficient in reading and math by 2014.

Consult these links and you will definitely be ahead of the curve.

No Child Left Behind – www.ed.gov/nclb
This government web site on NCLB provides all the foundation information. There are a number of pull down menus allowing you to find information on specific topics and an index as well. Some sections are tailored for teachers; others for parents. Once you spend some time on this web site you will have a thorough understanding of this important piece of legislation.
What Works Clearinghouse – www.whatworks.ed.gov
Established in 2002, this government supported resource reviews studies that have investigated the effectiveness of educational interventions and programs. Although none are endorsed by this review, the reader can access reports that give you information about approaches that have been determined to satisfy the NCLB requirement for scientifically-based techniques. The web site has an array of information on general education core programs, but very little about special education programs or interventions.
The National Association for State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) – www.nasdse.org
Want even more information from a special education perspective? Check out the NASDSE web site for information on current developments!

As always, if you have a web site that you find useful, send the URL to MaryAnn Byrnes, president@masscec.org or to anyone else on the Executive Board. Happy surfing!
